About

IMG_5850My name is Jordan Retting, and I have a passion for reading God’s word and trying to understand it.  I started this blog in 2014 with the purpose of sharing the Bible with others.  My goal is to grow in my own walk with God will helping others focus on the truth.  There are others who are much better writers and teachers than myself, and I would recommend them as great resources.  My favorite teachers are John MacArthur, Alistair Begg, and Wayne Grudem.  Some of the men who have been great teachers to me personally are my dad, Todd, my youth and college pastors Matt Redder and Sam Bhatt, and my current teacher, Lance Hartman.

I grew up in a Christian home, but I never truly trusted my life to Jesus until I got out of a broken engagement towards the end of 2013.  I had decided to read through the Gospels to see if Christianity was what I really believed in, and specifically, to study Jesus and learn what he actually said and believed.  In reading Matthew 14, I came across a specific section of Scripture which opened my eyes for the first time to the character of Christ.  Matthew 14:14 “When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.”  This may seem like an unimportant or rather uniform section of the Gospel, but let me provide some context on why this verse impacted me.  Jesus had just learned that John the Baptist had been executed.  Jesus himself said that John was the greatest man born to woman.  His ministry started after he was baptized by John, and John leapt in the womb when his mother Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the mother of Jesus.  Jesus had literally just lost someone he cared about deeply, but he didn’t let that get in the way of serving other people and putting their needs above his own desire to mourn John the Baptist.  That verse is the reason I write.  Unfortunately, many people are hostile to the Gospel and Christianity, and I believe a reason for that may be because the world ignores Jesus Christ and chooses instead to focus on sinful Christians.  The reason I write is because I want the world to fall in love, believe, and follow Jesus.  Because Matthew 14:14 is just the tip of the iceberg.

I am blessed to be married to my amazing wife, Bailey, and together we have a daughter named Riley.  I graduated with a degree in Psychology from UCCS, and currently live in Colorado Springs.
